Designing dark mode for Microsoft Excel on iOS
OVERVIEW
Mid 2018, I was assigned on a project to design dark mode for Excel. Dark theme is one of the most requested features over the past few years for Microsoft Office apps. By late 2018, Both Apple and Google made a dark theme an essential part of UI. Dark theme’s reduced luminance provides safety in dark environments and can minimize eye strain. Whiel The fluent design system had already set the precedent for the use of colours in Dark Mode, I just had to make sure these colours I assigned improved the readability, accessibility of the app.

CONCLUSION
Some benefits of having a dark mode for Office apps include:
-
Improved readability: In low-light environments, dark mode can make text easier to read, as the high-contrast color scheme can reduce eye strain.
-
Increased battery life: On devices with OLED screens, dark mode can conserve battery life by reducing the amount of power required to display black pixels.
-
Enhanced focus: Dark mode can create a more distraction-free environment, which can help users focus on the tasks at hand and improve their productivity.
-
Improved accessibility: Dark mode can improve the accessibility of a productivity app for users with visual impairments, as high-contrast color schemes can be easier for these users to see.
-
Consistency across devices: Implementing dark mode can create a more consistent user experience across different platforms and devices, which can be especially important for productivity apps that are used on multiple devices.
